MILAN – An important if not historic day for AC Milan today. At 12.00 at the press room at the Milanello sports centre, Ricardo Kakà was presented to the press after returning from his experience with Real Madrid in the Spanish capital.
By the player's side was club CEO Adriano Galliani. He said: "We are all very, very, very happy because Ricky Kaka is back home. He played 270 games and scored 95 goals, he has won many trophies and the Golden Ball as well. He left in the summer of 2009, but had arrived as a World Champion in 2003. There were six wonderful years. He left and finally he has returned. He has never really been away and we tried to sign him back for two or three years but the link with Kaka has been incredible. Feelings cannot be judged, he was able to get into the heart of the Rossoneri fans. I have never received so many compliments as in recent days. Having brought home Kaka has given so much joy to many Milan fans and us so we are happy. President Berlusconi called me four times on Sunday which has never happened with another player. There was a different feeling than any other time in the last 27 years. I don't want to get too emotional so welcome home Ricky."
Ricardo Kaka then spoke: "It has been very nice to come back. They are special days. Yesterday with my wife I thought about 10 years ago when I arrived here in another situation but the good times seem the same. Seeing all the people at Milanello gave me the feeling that I have never gone away. I learned a lot with players with more experience and now it's up to me to take the role of expert. I do not know for how many seasons. I want to help these guys and learn as much from them as well."
Galliani then added: "Never before in this negotiation has there been so much heart. Sentiment prevailed above all reason. We tried for Kaka in full agreement with our coach. Starting with Boateng we thought we had to return to the 4-3-1-2 we thought that Kaka was the ideal player for the new module. He was a technical choice, we brought it to President Berlusconi after we got through the playoffs. Sometimes the difficult deals come true. We want to say to our fans that we tried to get the player who we think can give us a hand from the technical point of view. I remember Ancelottiwhen he called me to ask me where we got Kaka to tell me it was a phenomenon. When we signed Kakà we had an impressive attacking midfielder in Rui Costa.
"I want to give a lot of credit to Ariedo Braida and Leonardo Leo in Sao Paulo for the Kakà's arrival, faxes that were not working and so on. I must say that I thought I would not make it while Real Madrid have proven to be friends. I thank them. I also thank Bosco and Ricky because they have tangibly demonstrated their affection for Milan making a great financial sacrifice. There was the will by all parties.. We tried a year ago and two years ago. I went to Madrid without having a certain appointment with Real. I called them and I went to their offices and we came to a conclusion. I asked a lot of sacrifices to Bosco and in the end, the white smoke at 2:35 singled Ricky Habemus to Milan. I despaired when I thought it wasn't going through. I moved and at the end of the day we sorted out the contract with Real and with the player."
Kakà again: "I never had consistency at Real Madrid over these four years. I hoped to have it. I have not been injured for a long time. I am fit and I am ready for this challenge. I am used to a winning Milan. I think this team can do well. My choice was dictated by the possibility to rediscover the joy of playing football and at this point it is Milan."
On his reception and on his role: "Today, with all the social networks we can send out our emotions. We will never be able to fully demonstrate what I tried but I think you understood. Before speaking of roles I want to hear what the coach needs and we will difintely find a solution."
Adriano Galliani on the deal: "It came apart when Boateng left. There were 2-3 days left and I think they are the most important. Basically Ricky replaces Boateng. Petagna has moved on and Matri has arrived, then Boateng left and Kaka arrived. He was our choice and luckily it went through. I feel the same excitement that the fans do for Kakà's return. During these four years, both the President and I were part of the 15,000 Kaka orphans. I hope they come back slowly. In 2009 15,000 ticket-holders left. We had great players but no one is born with empathy there than Kaka is."
Kakà on his years in Madrid: "It was a good experience. From a professional point of view it did not go as I wanted. During these moments I had to learn so much. Real is a great club and I am happy to have been part of its history. I lost the joy of playing football and I think it is the right place here. Real had some very specific ideas and there was less and less room for me and we agreed with Ancelotti about my departure."
Kakà again: "It was not Mourinho's fault if I was not playing. During the years when I've worked with him, I tried to have his confidence but he had other ideas. I have always worked well. But he is not to blame. He is a coach who gave me so much in so many ways. I think Mario is a great player and I think I can do well with Matri as well, Robinho, El Shaarawy. Here are great players and very good attackers."
Adriano Galliani on Kaka remaining: "There will be no relay race with Honda and Ricky is here to stay. There is nothing behind Galaxy and there is only a contract with Milan until June 30th, 2015."
On the competitiveness of Milan, Kaka said: "Milan can win in Italy and do well in Europe. There are winning players, who are used to the pressure.I think that we will fight for the title."
Galliani went on: "Over the last five years there are only seven clubs that have always been in the group stages of the Champions League. Milan is the team that has made the greatest number of points in Italy. Remember that Milan won the Scudetto three seasons ago, we came second in 2012 after being in the lead for a while. Last year we came third. we have been at the top in Europe and the first in Italy over the past five years."
Kakà took over again: "I heard from President Berlusconi, he was very happy and he sent me his good wishes. My dad has done very good. He defended my interests. Negotiations began at 5 pm and went on to midnight with all data. I talked to my wife. then he told me I should go. I called 5 times Galliani at 2:30 and he did not answer and then he answered. (laughs). When he answered I told him I was coming back."
On the transfer in 2009, Adriano Galliani: "It is useless to return to the past. Kakà never want to leave Milan but we had to sell. While Sheva asked to leave, Ricky did not ask to. Milan had been the subject of strong pressure and Florentino Perez wanted him. In January there was a club that had offered a figure higher than that for Bale. The past cannot be changed and it is useless to go there."
Kaka on the expectations of the fans: "I do not feel the weight. I can say that I will do everything possible to play well and be happy with the fans."
Brazil: "I have not spoken with Scolari and Parreira about my choice."
The objectives of the team, Kaka: "We are among the seven best teams in Europe. We want to win. Let's see what happens at the end."
